Nissan today announced its partnership with British adventurer, Chris Ramsey, to undertake the world’s-first all-electric driving adventure from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole. Departing in March 2023, the daring Pole to Pole expedition will see Ramsey and team in a Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE travel over 27,000 kilometers across several regions and continents with predicted temperatures ranging from -30⁰C to 30⁰C. Ramsey will be the first person to drive from pole to pole in a vehicle of any type as he makes his way from the Arctic through North, Central and South America, before crossing to Antarctica.

27,000 kilometers fully electric: With the Nissan Ariya from the North Pole to the South Pole

Together with the British adventurer Chris Ramsey, Nissan starts the world’s first all-electric expedition from the North Pole to the South Pole. In March 2023, Ramsey and his team set out in the Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE to cover more than 27,000 kilometers, crossing multiple continents and regions. During the trip through the Arctic, North, Central and South America and the Antarctic, the crew expect temperatures of -30 to +30 degrees.

The route passes through some of the most extreme yet beautiful landscapes in the world: from snow-capped glacial landscapes to steep mountain trails, to vast desert dunes and uncharted territory.

For Chris Ramsey, it is not the first expedition with a purely electric drive. He has been driving electric vehicles for over ten years and in 2017, together with his wife Julie, was the first team to complete the Mongol Rally in a fully electric vehicle. In their Nissan LEAF, the couple covered more than 10,000 miles in 56 days. “We want to prove that electric vehicles can handle the toughest conditions – from the freezing cold of the poles to the hot and humid jungles of South America,” said Chris Ramsey. “We are showing that e-models are fun to drive and meet the daily needs of drivers around the world. It is fantastic to have a global and innovative brand like Nissan on your side on such an expedition.”

To ensure the Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE is ready for the frigid conditions of the Arctic and Antarctic, Chris Ramsey developed a bespoke, robust exterior body capable of traveling through extreme terrain. In addition, the model has special wheels, tires and a revised suspension. A second, unmodified Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE will be present as a support vehicle across America.

“We are very proud to announce our partnership with Chris Ramsey and the Pole to Pole expedition team,” said Asako Hoshino, Executive Vice President and Global Marketing and Sales Officer at Nissan. “On the expedition, the Ariya can demonstrate its high level of comfort and its long-distance suitability. In combination with the e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, which offers improved stability and traction on a wide variety of surfaces, the crossover SUV will be the ideal partner for Chris Ramsey and his team.” https://germany.nissannews.com; nissan-global.com
