472.41 km/h: Yangwang U9 breaks world record

BYD’s luxury brand Yangwang has set a world record with the new U9 Track Edition: On August 8, 2025, the super sports car reached a top speed of 472.41 km/h on the Papenburg test track – making it the fastest electric car in the world.

The U9 Track Edition is based on YANGWANG’s e4 platform with four high-performance motors (555 kW each) and the DiSus-X body control system. A total output of over 3,000 hp and a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 hp per ton ensure extreme acceleration and stability. The vehicle also uses a standard 1200-volt platform and sophisticated thermal management for extreme loads.

The intelligent torque distribution of the e4 platform analyzes road conditions over 100 times per second and adjusts the power to each wheel separately – for maximum traction. DiSus-X simultaneously regulates the vertical position of each suspension independently, improving grip, safety, and comfort at top speeds. The aerodynamically optimized design remains closely aligned with the production U9, with an optional carbon front splitter for additional downforce. In collaboration with Giti Tire, Yangwang also developed special semi-slick tires that minimize torque loss and reduce wear thanks to new materials and knurling technology.

The record was driven by German racing driver Marc Basseng, who had already set the previous electric record in 2024: “I never thought I would break my own record again so quickly – but the technology made it possible.”
