50 million investment: Schaeffler expands its development and manufacturing campus for electromobility

A new center of excellence for electrified mobility is being built on an approximately 8,000 square meter site at the headquarters of the Automotive Technologies division in Bühl. The company is investing around 50 million euros in the construction. “We are massively expanding our activities in electromobility and winning important customer projects,” says Matthias Zink, Member of the Executive Board of Schaeffler AG responsible for Automotive Technologies. In 2021, Schaeffler generated more than one billion euros in sales with electrified drives. The company also acquired electromobility projects worth €3.2 billion worldwide in 2021. In the first half of 2022, a number of additional orders were added, also amounting to €3.2 billion. Schaeffler thus already reached its target for 2022 as a whole in the first half of the year.

In the future, many of the highly complex customer projects will be processed in the expansion of the location that is now planned. “We are creating new, modern workspaces for our innovations in electromobility,” says Matthias Zink. The new building is part of Schaeffler’s Roadmap 2025 strategy program and another important step toward expanding e-mobility. Construction work will begin in September 2022, and the buildings are scheduled to be ready in the fall of 2024. “The construction of the development center is an important signal for Bühl as a business location and in particular for the future of its employees,” says Bühl’s mayor Hubert Schnurr. After the appointment of the global headquarters for the Schaeffler Automotive division in Bühl, Hubert Schnurr recognizes the construction of the development center as another clear sign from the company that it not only wants to consolidate the Bühl location, but also position it for the “mobility of tomorrow” in a way that is fit for the future.
