The technology group ABB has acquired the French power electronics specialist BrightLoop. According to the company, this move is intended to accelerate its electrification strategy in the areas of industrial mobility and marine propulsion. The acquisition expands ABB’s capabilities in the field of compact, robust and intelligent power converter systems for the most demanding applications, from construction and mining machinery to electric ferries and offshore vessels. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025 and is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
As part of the agreement, ABB will initially acquire a majority stake of 93 per cent in BrightLoop. ABB expects to acquire the remaining minority stake of 7 per cent in 2028. BrightLoop’s leadership team will remain an important part of the business and will be critical to its success under ABB’s ownership.
Based in Paris, BrightLoop was founded in 2010 and employs around 90 people. In 2024, the company achieved a turnover of almost 16 million euros. It has grown strongly in recent years, driven by accelerating electrification in its core industries. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of high and low voltage DC/DC power converters designed to handle bidirectional power flows in a highly efficient, compact and scalable way. BrightLoop’s technology was originally developed for the high power requirements of motorsport and is found in all ABB FIA Formula E race cars, according to ABB.
