ID. 2all becomes ID. Polo: Established model names for Volkswagen’s ID family

Volkswagen is adopting well-known model names for the all-electric ID. family. The ID. Polo, based on the ID. 2all concept car, will be launched in 2026. CEO Thomas Schäfer emphasizes that these names stand for quality, design, and technology and will lead the brand into the future. Other established names will be transferred to upcoming electric models, while vehicles with combustion engines will retain their familiar names. This strategy is intended to make it easier for customers to navigate the product range.

The “ID.” name stands for advanced electric mobility, while the Polo is known for quality, safety, and the democratization of innovation. The new ID. Polo, which will be launched in 2026, the Polo’s 50th anniversary year, embodies these values. Martin Sander, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, explains: “Our cars accompany people throughout their lives, shaping memories and stages of life. A name like Polo stands for reliability and history. That’s why we also give our ID. models names that evoke emotions and are anchored in people’s everyday lives. Electromobility should not only be progressive, but also approachable and personal.”

Another highlight is the ID. Polo GTI. In 2026, the ID. GTI Concept study will be further developed into the production version, the “ID. Polo GTI,” which is designed to provide dynamic driving pleasure. The ID. Polo and the ID. Polo GTI will be presented in Munich. On September 7, Volkswagen will unveil the world premiere of the electric compact SUV study, the ID. CROSS Concept. The production version, the ID. Cross, will be launched at the end of 2026 as the electric counterpart to the T-Cross.

The introduction of these more compact electric models marks the beginning of a new era for Volkswagen. Thanks to the ID. Polo and the ID. Cross makes electric mobility affordable for more people.
