XPENG is setting new standards in the field of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. This is the conclusion reached by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) in Bergisch Gladbach in a recent analysis. According to the analysis, no other manufacturer is as advanced as the Chinese high-tech company.
Chinese car brands have caught up significantly in recent years, particularly in the area of semi-autonomous functions, and have overtaken their international competitors. In 2024, Chinese manufacturers accounted for more than 70 percent of global innovation in the ADAS segment. According to the study, German brands account for only 14 percent, and US companies for only 12 percent. Eight of the ten most innovative automotive groups are headquartered in China. XPENG leads the ranking with an innovation strength of 65.6 points – more than seven points ahead of the second-placed manufacturer. The highest-ranked European group achieved 34.3 points, putting it well behind.
Level 2+ systems as standard: Around half of XPENG’s innovation output is achieved through developments for Level 2+ autonomous driving. The XPILOT system installed in all models enables a semi-autonomous driving experience on certain routes. Depending on the market and regulatory environment, the vehicles are even equipped with Level 3.0 or 3.5 functions.
“The CAM once again confirms XPENG’s technological leadership,” says Markus Schrick, Managing Director of XPENG Region Central Europe. “Our customers are already benefiting from systems that make everyday life safer and more comfortable and pave the way for autonomous driving.”
Robotaxis about to launch: XPENG plans to demonstrate what autonomous driving could look like in the future starting next year: The company is launching three robotaxi models on the Chinese market. The vehicles use China’s first fully self-developed full-stack system – with four Turing AI chips, up to 3,000 TOPS computing power, and AI-supported operating systems. In cooperation with Amap, a company of the Alibaba Group, the services are also to be offered internationally in the long term.
Background to the study: CAM’s Connected Car Innovation (CCI) study examines the innovation and competitiveness of 30 global automotive groups with around 100 brands. It is based on more than 2,300 connectivity-related innovations from 2020 to 2024, 419 of which are from 2024. The study analyzes innovations in the areas of safety systems and ADAS, information and communication systems, and operating and display concepts.
