The SEAT & CUPRA plant in Martorell is launching production of the CUPRA Raval and the Volkswagen ID. Polo, ushering in a new era of mobility in Europe
The SEAT & CUPRA plant in Martorell has begun production of the CUPRA Raval and the Volkswagen ID. Polo, ushering in a new era of mobility aimed at electrifying Europe from Spain. The launch of this family of urban electric vehicles is intended to make electric mobility accessible across the entire continent. This project, led by SEAT & CUPRA on behalf of the Volkswagen Group’s Core Brand Group, includes four fully electric models from three different brands, all manufactured in Spain.
The official event was attended by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Volkswagen Group Board of Management, Thomas Schäfer, and Markus Haupt. Thomas Schäfer is a member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, responsible for the Core Brand Group, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SEAT & CUPRA. Markus Haupt is CEO of SEAT & CUPRA. The Board of Management of SEAT & CUPRA was also present.
“Today is much more than just the kickoff for the production of two vehicles. It is a milestone for SEAT & CUPRA and clear proof of what we can achieve through teamwork,” said Markus Haupt. “With the CUPRA Raval and the Volkswagen ID. Polo, we are not only launching the production of two models, but also demonstrating our ability to lead and shape the future of mobility. We have completed our transformation, invested more than three billion euros in Martorell, and driven a profound cultural shift. As a result, Martorell is now a key industrial hub. And we are proud to say that we are ready to electrify Europe from Spain.”
Leading the urban electric vehicle family
The urban electric vehicle family is the first project of this scale led by SEAT & CUPRA on behalf of the Core brand group, and represents a significant step forward in the company’s role within the Volkswagen Group. Based on a shared platform, the urban electric vehicle family has reduced complexity and production costs while producing four distinct models, each designed to meet different customer needs. In line with the new cross-brand leadership model, the company will now continue to drive electrification from the Iberian Peninsula by leading the further development of the MEB21 platform.
“The urban electric vehicle family demonstrates how the Core brand group leverages synergies and promotes collaboration within the Group to bring electric mobility to life on a large scale,” said Thomas Schäfer. “The success of SEAT & CUPRA in leading a cross-brand project for the first time demonstrates the strength of our model. The shared platform strengthens competitiveness in the entry-level segment. At the same time, it enables cost savings of 600 million euros and forms the basis for four clearly differentiated models. Together, these achievements lay the groundwork for the democratization of electric mobility across Europe.”
Ready to electrify Europe from Spain
The launch of the CUPRA Raval and the Volkswagen ID. Polo marks the culmination of a historic transformation that further solidifies SEAT & CUPRA’s position as true automotive giants. Following the start of production of these two all-electric vehicles, the state-of-the-art plant in Martorell is poised to take a leading role in the mobility of the future with a flexible production approach for electric, hybrid, and highly efficient internal combustion vehicles.
“Compelling entry-level models that are affordable for many and offer the space and cutting-edge technology typically found in higher segments: with this urban electric vehicle family, the Volkswagen Group is driving electrification forward in Europe,” said Oliver Blume. “We are investing several billion euros to make Spain a central hub for electric mobility. And we are sending a clear signal: even as global competition intensifies, we believe in our home market of Europe—our urban electric vehicle family will come from Europe, for Europe. Now is the time to harness this momentum with a clear ‘Made in Europe’ strategy. It must ensure a level playing field and strengthen Europe’s industrial base.”
Much more than just a city car: the ID. Polo
The new Volkswagen ID. Polo is the all-electric version of one of the most successful models in the company’s history. With over 20 million units sold, the Polo is now opening a new chapter—completely redesigned and firmly focused on the future. The ID. Polo combines elegant, timeless design with a compact format and generous space for everyday life. Add to that high quality and an attractive entry-level price. The model also sets technological benchmarks: with a WLTP range of up to 454 kilometers and the new Connected Travel Assist, including automatic traffic light detection, efficient one-pedal drive, and the Vehicle-to-Load function, which turns the ID. Polo into a mobile power source for devices like e-bikes.
The CUPRA Raval: ready to set new standards
The launch of the CUPRA Raval heralds a new chapter in the history of SEAT & CUPRA and marks the next stage in CUPRA’s unstoppable growth. At just four meters long, the most radical version of an urban electric car features a sporty silhouette with a driver-oriented, inviting, and optimally utilized interior. True to CUPRA’s DNA, it delivers electrifying performance while incorporating advanced innovations such as 3D-knitted CUP bucket seats and dynamic light projections in the door panels. Based on Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, the CUPRA Raval creates its own segment to redefine urban electric mobility. It will launch in three versions and offer a range of approximately 450 kilometers.
Following its market launch in the summer of 2026, the CUPRA Raval will further accelerate CUPRA’s momentum. Eight years after its launch, the challenger brand is more successful than ever before: Since its market debut, CUPRA has sold more than one million vehicles. In 2026, the brand achieved its best first quarter to date; March was also the highest-revenue month in the company’s history. This brings CUPRA ever closer to its goal of achieving a three percent market share in Europe.
Change needs drivers—and SEAT & CUPRA are shaping the future of mobility. As the only company in Spain that designs, develops, manufactures, and sells cars, SEAT & CUPRA are a cornerstone of the Spanish automotive industry and the driving force behind its electrification.
As part of the largest transformation in the company’s 75-year history, SEAT & CUPRA is turning Spain into a European hub for electric vehicles. Through the “Future: Fast Forward” project, SEAT & CUPRA, the Volkswagen Group, PowerCo, and their partners have invested a total of 10 billion euros in the country’s electrification. Additionally, the company is leading the urban electric vehicle family project for the Volkswagen Group’s Core brand group and will begin producing fully electric vehicles at its Martorell plant starting in 2026—including the CUPRA Raval.
As part of the Volkswagen Group, SEAT & CUPRA sells vehicles under the SEAT and CUPRA brands—including the iconic SEAT Ibiza and the company’s current bestseller, the CUPRA Formentor. With 13,000 skilled workers and three production centers in Martorell, El Prat de Llobregat, and Barcelona, the company exports over 80 percent of its vehicles to more than 70 countries.
