FMCW LIDAR: Game changer for autonomous mobility

by Scantinel Photonics GmbH
Autonomous mobility is the innovation driver for the entire automotive industry. Self-propelled cars, autonomous taxi, delivery services and buses will revolutionize the entire mobile ecosystem.

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is considered the key technology for autonomous mobility. Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) LIDAR systems can make a significant contribution to the breakthrough of autonomous mobility.
The Scantinel 5D FMCW LiDAR technology has significant advantages over current state of the art methods.
– In addition to the spatial coordinates (distance), the system can determine the time and speed with each pixel (5D)
– Immunity to sensor cross-talk and self-interference: Light pulses from other sensors cannot be confused or disturbed by own, previously sent pulses.
– Long range (approx. 300 m) and high robustness against bad weather conditions and direct sunlight
– Low cost by using highly integrated PiCs (Photonic integrated circuits) and scalability by combining with conventional optics (a so-called active camera)
