eMove360° and MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award 2025: These are the finalists

We are pleased to announce the official finalists of the eMove360° Award 2025 and the Materialica Design + Technology Award 2025. From more a large number of submissions, the expert jury has nominated the most innovative and forward-looking entries in the field of mobility. In the categories Battery & Powertrain, Autonomous Vehicle and Electric Utility Vehicle, Product, Material, and Process, the jurors have selected a total of nine companies as finalists. The category winners will be honored on October 14 during the two-day eMove360° Europe 2025 9th International Conference & Exhibition for Electric & Autonomous Mobility, held in the exclusive setting of the Holiday Inn Hotel Munich Westpark. One thing can already be revealed: Mercedes-Benz, BASF, and Ultre have pulled ahead of their competitors.

“It was once again a great pleasure to discuss the consistently high-quality submissions with my fellow jury members. The outstanding entries not only address solutions for sustainable mobility but also focus more broadly on the responsible use of resources. As organizers committed to sustainability, we see this as an important signal,” emphasizes Robert Metzger, Managing Director of eMove360 Media GmbH and organizer of both awards. eMove360° would like to thank all nominees and award winners for their contributions. Their work is a shining example of the immense potential that lies at the intersection of technology, design, and sustainable mobility.

Here are the finalists of the eMove360° Award in detail:

Pre Design – Softwaretool submitted by SmartCable

The architectural design in preDesign can be created to scale or not to scale and is suitable for both combustion engine vehicles and electric mobility. This is made possible by calculating drive-specific parameters and comparing them with rules stored in knowledge catalogs. The functionality of preDesign includes sketching components and their connections, validating the design, and providing an interface for integrating simulations. Even at the architectural stage, preDesign enables the derivation of key data such as required installation space, parameters for the electrical design, and manufacturing data. In addition, auxiliary systems can be generated automatically through generative design, and key figures for comparative evaluations can be provided. www.smartcable.de

Ultre 4 Cargo by Zieta Prozessdesign sp.zo.o

Ultre 4 Cargo is a dedicated electric vehicle tool for last-mile delivery, filling the gap between light delivery vehicles (bikes) and LCVs, offering the advantages of both solutions: lightness, agility, access from every side, possibility of standing inside, as well as safety, high load capacity (4m³ and 2.8m length packages), and appropriate speed and range for urban transport needs. Built in the spirit of maximum simplicity, it is an energy-efficient tool for work as well as the production process. The goal of the Ultre brand is a sustainable, ecological, and agile urban transport fleet, tailored to the task rather than luxury needs. www.zieta.pl; https://www.ultremobility.com/

Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK submitted by Karsan  Otomotiv Sanayii ve Tic. A.Ş.

KARSAN Autonomous e-ATAK is a Level-4, factory-configured, fully electric bus developed by Karsan and ADASTEC. It supports driverless operation in mixed traffic using LiDAR, radar, and AI-based control systems. With a 300 km range (BMW battery), 55 km/h max speed, and capacity for 52 passengers, it is the first homologated full-size autonomous bus in serial production. It operates in real-life public transport across 12 projects in Europe and the USA, including tunnel navigation and campus use. www.karsan.com

Here are the finalists of the Materialica Design + Technology Award 2025:

Recycled Carbon Fiber Reinforced Concrete submitted by Thermolysis Co., Ltd.

Thermolysis Co., Ltd. from Taiwan has developed a recycled, carbon fiber reinforced concrete that combines recycled carbon fibers with traditional concrete. Through microwave-assisted pyrolysis, waste carbon fiber composites are processed, and the fibers are uniformly dispersed into the concrete to bridge microcracks and prevent structural failures. This material is ideal for reinforcing structures, repairs, and high-strength infrastructure such as airport runways, highways, and bridges.

Reverence Darkness – using recycled tire materials as a carbon black source submitted by BASF Coatings

What if the tires that once drove us forward could continue their journey in a new form? REVERENCE DARKNESS embodies this revolutionary concept. By using recycled tire materials as a carbon black source, bringing materials from the car back to the car. Each hue is a testament to resilience and resourcefulness, turning end-of-life tires into a symbol of sustainability. This color tells a story of renewal and rebirth, turning what was once discarded into a radiant future. Through the journey of REVERENCE DARKNESS, we learn that the key to a sustainable future lies not only in reducing our consumption but also in reimagining waste as a valuable resource. This color serves as an inspiration, reminding us that every step towards a circular economy brings us closer to a greener, cleaner planet.

Frixion Healthcare Upholstery submitted by ergoCentric Inc.

Chairs in hospitals must be upholstered in coated fabrics that can be cleaned and disinfected with hospital grade disinfectants. Unfortunately, these coated fabrics are slippery, which reduces comfort as the user slides forward away from the back support. Frixion Healthcare Fabric is the solution to this problem. It is created by adding proprietary anti-slip technology to a hospital grade coated fabric. It allows the user to stay firmly positioned in their seat. It also withstands hospital grade cleaners and disinfectants, including 10% bleach. Available for all ergoCentric seating products including a PVC free version and 5 year warranty. www.ergocentric.com

Mxenes/LDH/MOFS submitted by Nanjing MingShan New Materials Co.,Ltd. and Quzhou Institute of Zhejiang University

MXenes are materials with high electrical conductivity and hydrophilicity, used in energy storage, electromagnetic shielding, and as sensors. They are also suitable for water purification and catalysis. Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) are inorganic materials used in energy storage, catalysis, and the removal of pollutants from water. Additional applications include flame retardants and drug carriers. Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are applied in gas separation, catalysis, and biomedicine, particularly as drug carriers. They are also suitable for chemical and biological sensors, as well as energy conversion.

Sustainable Underbody Cover “From Car for Car” submitted by Mercedes Benz AG

To promote the circular economy, Mercedes-Benz, together with project partners HKS, MOCOM, and Autoneum, has developed a sustainable underbody panel made of PP-GF20 using the C-Class as an example. The thermoplastic material is made entirely from end-of-life vehicles (plastics from the shredder light fraction, supplied by HKS). By switching materials (MOCOM), the CO₂ footprint related to material usage was reduced by approximately 33%. The LFT-D process at Autoneum enables efficient component manufacturing. www.mercedes-benz.com

AEROG – stationary bird deterrent robot submittet by Junbeom Park, Student at the Hanseo-University, South Korea

AEROG is the intelligent, autonomous solution to prevent dangerous and costly bird strikes at airports. Operating 24/7, AEROG uses advanced LiDAR to detect and track avian threats in real-time. It deploys a dynamic, multi-modal combination of a highly effective green laser and acoustic deterrents. Its intelligent, randomized patterns overcome bird habituation, the primary failure of traditional methods. AEROG provides a safe, non-lethal, and persistent solution to ensure aviation safety.

The official award ceremony will take place on October 14 at 6:00 PM in the exclusive setting of the Holiday Inn Munich Westpark, as part of the two-day eMove360° Europ 2025 9th International Conference & Exhibition for Electric & Autonomous Mobility. A high-profile networking event bringing together top decision-makers from the electric and autonomous mobility industry. Experts from Stellantis, Bosch, Sixt, EasyMile, RWTH Aachen, NIO, and others will speak about groundbreaking technologies and market trends. Book your conference ticket here.
