As part of a media event to celebrate the new Macan Electrics, journalists from 14 different markets came to the region and stopped off in the ancient town of Herceg Novi, Montenegro’s “City of Sunshine”. From there, the convoy of Macan models reached the starting point of one of Europe’s most impressive roads after a relaxed 60-kilometer tour to the east.
Built in 1884, the serpentine road of Kotor bears witness to the wealth and ambitions of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Originally built as a trade route within the Principality of Montenegro, the road connects the coastal town of Kotor with the old capital of Cetinje in the heart of the Lovćen National Park. It winds uphill for ten kilometers and has no fewer than 25 hairpin bends.
The road passes through a nature reserve, which is a refuge for wildlife, and climbs to an altitude of almost 1000 meters above sea level. At the summit, drivers are rewarded with a spectacular view of the Bay of Kotor, which stretches north to the sleepy fishing village of Orahovac.
But the serpentines of Kotor are not just a magnet for tourists looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the Montenegrin coast. They are also an FIA-approved venue for hill climbs. Numerous local events are held there throughout the year. This provided Porsche with the ideal opportunity to demonstrate the performance and handling of the Macan and to show that the outstanding characteristics of this class have in no way been lost as a result of the switch to electrification.
“With its excellent handling and outstanding agility, the Macan Turbo was a good choice for this track,” explains Venceslas Monzini, Head of Public Relations at Porsche Central and Eastern Europe. “Its Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus system (PTV Plus), electronically controlled differential lock and all-wheel drive ensure precise power distribution and stability. The optional rear-axle steering improves responsiveness even further, making it ideal for such dynamic terrain. The electric powertrain delivers instant torque, enabling smooth acceleration and confident handling on steep slopes and sharp corners. This tour was an impressive demonstration of the Macan’s capabilities.”
The participating media representatives had the opportunity to experience the serpentines of Kotor in all currently available Macan variants, including the combustion series. So it is testament to the performance and power of the Macan Electric’s powertrain that, as the first all-electric model in the range, it was more than capable of proving itself on such a tour and such a challenging route.
“The difficult route of the Kotor hairpin bends provided a very good opportunity to demonstrate the Macan’s precision, control and excellent handling characteristics,” adds Monzini. “The total distance covered was also well within the vehicle’s range, and the available charging infrastructure ensured that the energy level remained in the optimum range throughout the journey. The electric Macan completed the journey effortlessly.”
