With clean lines, a sporty-elegant silhouette, and striking light signatures, the Polestar 3 brings fresh air to the segment of electric premium SUVs. But it’s not just about looks. For the current issue of the eMove360° Magazine in German language, we tested the Long Range Dual Motor version with the Performance Package. On the drive from Munich to South Tyrol, what impressed us most was the driving experience. For us, the Polestar 3 is one of the most exciting e-SUVs in its class.
Design: Elegance in a large format
At just under 4.90 meters in length, the Polestar 3 stretches out with a distinctively low front, muscular proportions, and a coupé-like roofline. Despite its size, it doesn’t feel bulky but rather elegant and aerodynamic—the drag coefficient of 0.29 speaks for itself. Characteristic features include the distinctive LED lights and minimalist design language, which conveys more understatement than show.
Interior: Minimalism meets luxury
The cockpit is uncluttered: a 14.5-inch central display handles almost all functions, flanked by a digital driver display. Operation runs on Android Automotive, seamlessly integrating Google Maps, Spotify, and more. Sustainable materials such as wool, flax, and animal-friendly leather define the atmosphere. The large, vertical 14.5-inch display is the centerpiece, running Google’s Android Automotive OS—intuitive, fast, and directly integrated with Google Maps, Assistant, and Play Store. Despite the high-tech approach, one sometimes wishes for more physical buttons in everyday use, as almost all functions are controlled via touchscreen. Material quality and sense of space, however, are outstanding: the interior feels airy. Optionally, a 1,600-watt Bowers & Wilkins system with Dolby Atmos delivers a genuine concert experience.
There is ample space: five adults travel comfortably. With 484 liters of trunk volume (plus 90 liters in the underfloor compartment) and a 32-liter frunk, the Polestar 3 offers solid storage capacity, expanding to 1,411 liters with the rear seats folded down. Rear passengers also enjoy generous legroom and headroom.
Powertrain and driving dynamics: Powerful and confident
As standard, the Polestar 3 comes as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model: 360 kW (490 hp) and 840 Nm deliver sporty performance. With the optional Performance Package, output rises to 517 hp, enabling 0–100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h. Despite weighing over 2.6 tons, handling remains surprisingly agile, aided by torque vectoring. On the autobahn it glides smoothly, while in corners it stays remarkably nimble—thanks to its low center of gravity and perfectly tuned all-wheel distribution.
Range and charging: Built for long distances
With its 111-kWh battery, the Polestar 3 is among the long-distance champions in its segment. Official WLTP range is—depending on version—between 561 and over 700 kilometers. Especially in colder regions, the Polestar 3 proved in tests that it can remain highly efficient in winter operation. In a Scandinavian winter range test, it managed over 530 km at subzero temperatures—an impressive result. Fast charging is possible at up to 250 kW, enabling 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. AC charging is limited to 11 kW, which means a full charge takes several hours given the battery size.
Driver assistance systems: High-tech onboard
As expected in a premium vehicle, the Polestar 3 comes with a comprehensive suite of assistance systems. These include advanced Pilot Assist, automated lane keeping, emergency braking assist, blind spot monitoring, and more. The sensor package is future-proof—a LiDAR system for autonomous driving is also planned. In the Euro NCAP crash test, the Polestar 3 achieved the top rating of five stars, excelling in both occupant protection and pedestrian detection.
Price and positioning
In Germany, the Polestar 3 starts at around €80,000. With extras such as the Performance Package or high-end sound system, the price can exceed €100,000, clearly placing it in the premium league.
Production
The Polestar 3 is the brand’s first vehicle produced on two continents. Initial production takes place in Chengdu, China, followed by a second facility in Ridgeville, South Carolina, USA.
Conclusion: The serious challenger
The Polestar 3 makes a statement. It combines Scandinavian restraint with impressive technology, offering long range, confident performance, and a refined interior. The high entry price is a slight drawback, but overall Polestar delivers one of the most compelling electric SUVs in its class.
