Euro NCAP: Five stars for Polestar

The Polestar 4 is the third vehicle from the Swedish electric vehicle brand’s current product range to be awarded a five-star rating by Euro NCAP. The vehicle tests carried out by Euro NCAP cover the categories of adult occupants, children, vulnerable road users and safety assistants. Like the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 before it, the Polestar 4 also achieved five stars in all categories and an overall rating of 86 per cent. The European New Car Assessment Programme has been certifying the results of vehicle safety tests since 1997 and only awards five stars – the highest possible award – to cars that demonstrate excellent overall crash protection performance and are equipped with the latest accident avoidance technology.

The Polestar 4 has seven airbags, including inner side airbags, which reduce the risk of injury to occupants in the event of an unavoidable accident, as well as an advanced E-Call system that automatically dials 911 in the event of a serious accident. To avoid such situations in the first place, the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) helps with 11 exterior cameras, an interior camera of the driver monitoring system, a mid-range radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors that monitor the surroundings and issue warnings or intervene if necessary. A roof-mounted reversing camera replaces the rear window and provides a wider field of vision, improved visibility in low light conditions and unobstructed rearward vision, even when the vehicle is fully loaded with occupants or luggage.

The Polestar 4 scored maximum points for side impact and pole impact, resulting in a 92 per cent rating for adult occupant protection, making it one of the highest scoring vehicles in Euro NCAP’s latest test protocols. Child protection was rated at 85 per cent and Euro NCAP praised the Polestar 4’s performance in both frontal and side impacts. The Polestar 4 also impressed with a score of 81 per cent for vulnerable road users and 79 per cent for safety assistance systems, contributing to the vehicle’s overall score of 86 per cent and 5 stars.
