Farasis Energy is expanding its fourth generation of battery cells for e-vehicles with an ultra high power variant that achieves a fast charging time of less than 15 minutes – with a high energy density of 300 Wh/kg at the same time. This new variant was tested externally by customers, and series production is planned for 2025.
With this variant, the focus can be placed more on the range or more on the ability to charge quickly, depending on the customer’s requirements. In less than 15 minutes, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in fast charge mode. The time to get an additional range of 250 kilometers by quickly recharging is even less than 8 minutes. “Drivers want to be able to quickly recharge their e-car on the go,” explains Bergold. “Our goal is therefore to enable a charging process in the future that is in no way inferior to the conventional refueling process of a car with a combustion engine. With the new Ultra High Power variant of our cell generation 4, we have come a good deal closer to this goal.”
The range does not have to be sacrificed: With an energy density of 300 Wh/kg and 692 Wh/l, the Ultra High Power variant enables ranges of up to 700 kilometers or more and a weight saving of up to 30 kilograms in the pack compared to the already very high powerful Generation 1 from Farasis. Depending on the battery size, even higher ranges are possible. An additional plus of Farasis’ fourth cell generation is the longevity of the batteries: They can be fully charged and discharged around 1,500 times. For a vehicle with a range of 700 kilometers, this results in a total range of more than one million kilometers.
The performance of all Farasis Generation 4 cells has been confirmed in extensive tests at various customers. Farasis is now preparing for industrial production, which is planned for 2025. www.farasis.com
