Ford Pro is electrifying the commercial vehicle fleet of the Berlin Public Transport Authority (BVG) with 131 all-electric vans

  • By the end of the year, Ford Pro will deliver 131 all-electric E-Transit and E-Transit Custom vans to Germany’s largest public transit company

Ford Pro is supporting the Berlin Public Transport Authority (BVG) in the systematic electrification of its commercial vehicle fleet and, through several contracts, is delivering a total of 131 all-electric vans to Germany’s largest public transit company. The BVG will use the new Ford E-Transit models primarily for maintenance, service, and transport operations in Berlin’s urban areas. In other words, in areas where short distances, frequent stops, and flexible scheduling define daily operations. To this end, the E-Transits for the BVG were specially configured to meet the diverse requirements of the public transit environment. By the end of 2026, all Ford Pro electric vans for the BVG will be in service.

The new BVG fleet consists of 49 E-Transit Custom and 82 E-Transit models. The E-Transit Custom delivers 100 kW (136 PS) and offers a usable battery capacity of 64 kWh, as well as a range of up to 331 kilometers. In urban environments, Europe’s best-selling electric van can even travel up to 443 km on a single battery charge. This makes the model particularly well-suited for frequent trips in city traffic—exactly where the BVG operates.

The 82 E-Transit models in the two-metric-ton class, on the other hand, offer 135 kW (183 PS) of power and a battery capacity of 68 kWh. This enables the large electric vans to achieve a combined range of up to 317 km and up to 403 km in city traffic. With up to 15.1 cubic meters of cargo volume, they are designed for more extensive transport and materials logistics within the BVG’s operations.

Since the launch of the Ranger Plug-in Hybrid in the summer of 2025, Ford Pro has offered at least one electrified model in each of its five commercial vehicle series. With this comprehensive lineup, Ford Pro already took a clear lead in Germany last year in new registrations of electric commercial vehicles—including both all-electric and plug-in hybrid models—with a 36.4 percent market share. So far this year, the manufacturer has further expanded its market leadership to a 37.6 percent share 1).

Ford Pro is continuing on this path to success and is now expanding its lineup of electric vans with the new Ford Transit City. The fifth Transit model is designed with efficiency and cost-effectiveness in mind and—as the name suggests—is particularly well-suited for inner-city use, from small businesses to delivery services. The new electric van is expected to hit the market by the end of this year, with prices starting at 35,990 euros net (42,828.10 euros gross).

Ford Pro also offers software to support the transition to electric mobility
In addition to meeting sustainability goals, cost-effectiveness plays a crucial role—especially for commercial customers—when switching to electric mobility. That is why many fleet managers are increasingly focusing on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Depending on the usage profile, the electrification of commercial vehicle fleets can not only reduce CO₂ emissions but also significantly lower operating costs. According to calculations by Ford Pro, fleet operators can save approximately 10,000 euros over a four-year period on leasing, energy, and maintenance costs for the E-Transit and E-Transit Custom compared to similarly equipped diesel models (based on an annual mileage of 20,000 km).To support the electrification of fleet vehicles, Ford Pro offers not only attractive leasing deals for its comprehensive range of electrified commercial vehicles but also helpful software tools. Based on connected vehicle data, E-Switch Assist calculates the daily charging requirements for Ford electric vans and analyzes whether they can handle the same workload as their internal combustion engine counterparts. Through a detailed assessment, the program identifies which vehicles in the current fleet can be converted to new all-electric models.

For fleet customers who have already made the switch to electric commercial vehicles, Ford Pro offers additional support through E-Telematics. This software, developed specifically for electric fleets, provides real-time information—such as the charge level or range of all fleet vehicles—with just one click, and helps with efficient route and charging planning. This is particularly beneficial for smaller businesses without their own fleet managers, but also for larger fleet customers such as the BVG.
