Used car market for electric vehicles: New warranty label from the German Association of Independent Car Dealers

As part of its 2025 anniversary congress, the German Association of Independent Car Dealers (BVfK) officially presented the new ‘Turbo for Used Electric Vehicles’ warranty label on 3 May. With this concept, the BVfK is providing a decisive impetus to promote the used car market for electric vehicles (BEVs). The aim is to reduce uncertainty among potential buyers and sustainably increase the acceptance of used electric cars. The ‘Turbo for used electric cars’ concept guarantees that the battery capacity of a vehicle does not decrease by more than three per cent per year. This is based on a DEKRA-certified test that documents the condition of the battery at the time of handover and serves as the basis for warranty claims.

In the event of a warranty claim, the guarantor undertakes to restore the charging capacity by taking suitable measures. If this is not possible or involves disproportionate costs, buyers have two clear options: They can return the vehicle for a customary usage fee or claim a reduction in the purchase price corresponding to the deviation from the guaranteed minimum capacity. This transparent and fair regulation protects consumers from unforeseen costs and enables dealers to offer their customers attractive offers on the market for used electric vehicles.

Digital solutions and all-round service: strong support for dealers To support the implementation of the ‘Turbo for used electric vehicles’ project, the BVfK has developed a digital platform that professionalises the trade in used electric vehicles. This ‘all-in-one solution’ digitalises all processes – from importing vehicle data to warranty processing – and thus makes the trade more efficient and profitable. The concept is based on an extended dealer management system that has been specially tailored to the requirements of the electric vehicle trade and enables dealers to seamlessly integrate all relevant processes.

‘Our aim is to enable BVfK dealers to achieve maximum results with minimum effort,’ explains Ansgar Klein, Managing Director of BVfK. The project is supported by strong partners who provide attractive financing and service offers. The BVfK guarantee concept, which has been in place for 23 years, is designed as a dealer’s own guarantee. However, the association ensures that the guarantee promises can actually be honoured by managing the dealers’ reserve accounts and by taking over the complete claims and complaints management, among other things.
