The Italian Daimler Buses sales company Daimler Buses Italia will deliver a total of 110 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro low-floor city buses to Autoservizi Troiani S.r.l. by mid-2026. The first ten solo vehicles from this contingent are already in operation on the public transport lines in the east of the Italian capital Rome – including Grotte Celoni, Ponte Mammolo, Pantano, Rebibbia, Torre Maura, Esposizione Universale di Roma and the surrounding districts. They underline Autoservizi Troiani’s commitment to environmentally friendly mobility, passenger comfort and service quality. At the beginning of 2024, the company began to realise its goal of completely converting local public transport to electromobility in the Italian metropolis’ suburban transport network by purchasing 40 Mercedes-Benz Citaro hybrid buses.
65 of the new 110 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses are equipped with NMC3 batteries, which give each bus a range of up to 280 kilometres without recharging. The remaining 45 units will already be equipped with the upcoming NMC4 battery generation. The 12-metre-long electric city buses are painted in the characteristic livery of the city of Rome with white lettering on a dark red background.
The safety systems installed in the new eCitaro fulfil the standards of the updated EU safety directive ‘General Safety Regulation’ (GSR-B for short). The equipment also includes a powerful air conditioning system. In addition, high-performance particle filters with an antiviral functional layer minimise the risk of infection while in the bus, while the Wank-Nick control system ensures a high level of passenger comfort.
The interior of the three-door electric buses can accommodate up to 73 passengers in addition to the driver. There are 26 seats and 47 standing places for them. In addition to the comfortable Mercedes-Benz City Star Eco city bus seats, a manual folding ramp makes it easier for passengers with limited mobility or parents with pushchairs to board the bus. For the safe transport of wheelchair users, the eCitaro buses are equipped with a special area for wheelchair users.
