Kia is introducing the Kia CarPay payment service, which allows customers to pay for services and products from the vehicle. The new fully electric compact SUV EV3 (eMove360° Award winner 2024 in the Electric Vehicle category) will be the first Kia model to offer the payment service, which can be accessed via the Kia Connect app. The first available application will be Parkopedia: With the service, drivers can find free parking spaces across Europe and conveniently pay the fees via the vehicle’s navigation screen. Parkopedia currently offers access to more than 1.7 million compatible parking spaces in 19 European countries. The parking service provider is currently concentrating on outdoor parking spaces on and off the street. In the future, the service will also be expanded to include parking garages and underground car parks.
Parking is becoming an increasingly greater challenge, especially in large cities. According to the “Parkopedia 2023 Global Driver Survey” conducted by market research institute Borderless Access, 92 percent of the more than 5,000 drivers surveyed in Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and the USA find it difficult to find free parking spaces. And parking mistakes can be expensive, with millions of parking tickets issued in Europe every year. This is particularly problematic for electric vehicles: 49 percent of e-drivers surveyed in Germany, France, Great Britain and Italy have unexpectedly received parking tickets while charging at public charging points.
The Parkopedia services are seamlessly integrated into the Kia EV3’s navigation system and help the driver find the nearest free parking space at their destination, indicating the fees and the expected number of free spaces. Kia CarPay makes it possible to pay parking fees through a secure transaction using the stored payment card, without the need for additional apps.
As in the EV3, Kia CarPay will be available in all future Kia models. This integrated service is an important step for the brand towards a wider range of in-vehicle payment options, add-on features, in-vehicle apps and electric car-related applications. With its driver conveniences, the payment service is an expression of Kia’s commitment to enhancing the driving experience and increasing customer satisfaction in all areas of driving.
