The new Jeep Compass 4xe demonstrates why electric mobility offers clear advantages over conventional combustion engines not only on the road, but also in demanding off-road terrain.
In the second episode of the “Jeep Capability Stories”, filmed in Sardinia, the fully electric SUV tackles rocky trails, steep climbs and water crossings. Two electric motors on the front and rear axles deliver a combined output of 276 kW, or 375 hp.
In difficult terrain, however, peak power is less important than precise control. Electric motors provide their torque instantly and allow wheelspin to be detected and corrected in real time. Thanks to its reduction gearing, the rear drive system delivers up to 3,100 Nm of torque at the wheels, according to Jeep.
The 4WD LOCK mode permanently activates both axles and adjusts torque distribution to the surface, available grip and changing weight transfer. One test driver explains: “The 4WD LOCK mode enables precise control of the enormous 3,100 Nm of wheel torque. With 4WD LOCK activated, you can climb slippery trails and tackle incredible gradients, even from a standstill – while maintaining full control of the vehicle down to the smallest adjustments.”
For demanding off-road use, the Compass 4xe also features increased ground clearance, dedicated driving modes and a wading depth of up to 480 millimetres.
Fabio Catone, Head of the Jeep brand in the Enlarged Europe region, says: “Our ‘off-road DNA’ is what defines us as a brand and makes our vehicles the ultimate expression of freedom and a connection with nature.”
The Compass 4xe therefore highlights the particular strengths of electric drive beyond paved roads: instant torque, precise power delivery, strong traction and locally emission-free driving.
