Kia Grows Four Times Faster Than the European Market

Kia significantly outperformed the overall European market in May 2026. The brand’s electrified models are driving growth, with the EV3 leading the all-electric portfolio.

Kia is continuing its growth trajectory in Europe. In May 2026, the brand delivered 49,382 new vehicles, representing a 14.9 percent increase compared with the same month last year. This means Kia grew around four times faster than the overall European market, which expanded by 3.6 percent according to ACEA data. The strongest contributions came from markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Italy.

The figures highlight how dynamically the European market is shifting towards electrified vehicles. Kia is benefiting from one of the broadest and most advanced electric vehicle portfolios among volume manufacturers. The brand’s growing market share also shows that electric mobility is increasingly becoming part of everyday customer reality — not just a technological vision, but a real purchasing decision.

“The continued demand for Kia’s electrified models is driving our above-market growth,” said Soohang Chang, President and CEO of Kia Europe. “Our success reflects the strength of our brand, our dealer network and our customer-centric electric vehicle strategy. With one of Europe’s most comprehensive electric vehicle line-ups, we offer efficiency, comfort and everyday design that resonate with customers.”

Electrification as a Growth Driver

In May, electrified powertrains continued to dominate market growth across the EU, EFTA and the UK. Hybrid vehicles accounted for the largest share at 35.5 percent, followed by battery-electric vehicles at 23.3 percent, petrol vehicles at 21.7 percent and plug-in hybrids at 10.7 percent.

Kia sold 15,443 battery-electric vehicles in May. The EV3 led the BEV portfolio with 4,770 units, followed by the EV4 with 2,886 units, the EV5 with 2,499 units and the new EV2, which reached 2,464 customer deliveries shortly after its market launch. Across all electrified powertrains — BEV, HEV and PHEV — Kia sold 30,995 vehicles.

This clearly shows that electrification is no longer a niche topic. It is becoming a central growth driver in the European automotive market. For Kia, the strategy of offering electric models across several vehicle segments is paying off — from the compact EV2 and the successful EV3 to larger models such as the EV4 and EV5.

The Kia Sportage also remains an important pillar of the brand’s success. With 16,072 units, it was Kia’s best-selling model in Europe in May. The Sportage Hybrid led the brand’s HEV sales, while the XCeed Plug-in Hybrid topped the PHEV line-up.
