Finally a small electric car in the SUV jungle: the BYD Dolphin Surf is now available to order in Germany. Even the basic Active variant comes with extensive safety, comfort and entertainment features, making it the industry leader in terms of value for money. In the Boost version, the DOLPHIN SURF has a 65 kW electric drive and a 43.2 kWh blade battery, which gives the city runabout a range of 322 km; 507 km can be achieved in urban areas. With a DC charging capacity of 85 kW, the charging time from 30 to 80 per cent is just 22 minutes. It offers space for four occupants and a boot capacity of 308 litres or 1,037 litres with the seats folded down.
The blade battery, which has no thermal runaway and contains no toxic heavy metals, comes as standard. BYD’s advanced e-platform 3.0 and the compact 8-in-1 electric drive provide extra space and safety in the interior. Other standard features on board include a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a rotating 10.1-inch touchscreen, intelligent ‘Hi BYD’ voice control and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. All three model variants have USB-A and USB-C ports as well as keyless NFC access, which allows the vehicle to be opened and started using a smartphone or wearables.
The driver assistance and safety systems (ADAS) are also extensive, with functions such as tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), intelligent speed limit control (ISLC), rear parking radar, automatic emergency brake assist (AEB), collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDA) and traffic sign recognition (TSR). All models have the Vehicle-to-Load function (V2L), which can be used to operate electrical consumers with an output of up to 3.3 kW. The Comfort variant also offers a 360-degree camera, electrically adjustable and heated front seats and a wireless smartphone charging function.
Let’s talk about money: prices start at 22,990 euros. At market launch, the small electric car will be available at a special offer price from 19,990 euros.
