MAN Truck & Bus and E.ON want to jointly establish around 170 locations with around 400 charging points across Europe along the existing MAN service network for public charging of electric trucks. The first e-truck charging station as part of the partnership has now gone into operation in Berlin. It is located at the MAN Service Centre in Berlin-Wildau directly on the A10 and A13 motorways near the Schönefelder Kreuz junction and initially has two charging points specifically for trucks. During the day, drivers can use the existing infrastructure of the workshop, such as the sanitary facilities and the recreation room, during their charging and driving breaks. Shopping facilities and restaurants are within walking distance. Four charging points in Karlsfeld near Munich (A99 motorway) – close to MAN’s headquarters – and two charging points in Fürstenwalde (A12 motorway) in Brandenburg will also be connected to the network in the coming weeks.
The charging capacity of the stations is up to 400 kilowatts each. Drivers can thus refuel with energy for around 300 kilometres with an intermediate charging stop of 45 minutes during their statutory driving break, depending on the vehicle. A later conversion of the locations to megawatt charging is planned. In addition to the high charging capacity, the parking and charging areas are also specially designed for e-trucks – including a drive-through facility at the charging stations, so that drivers do not have to manoeuvre or uncouple the trailer, but can also charge comfortably with an articulated lorry.
Not just MAN: charging options for all manufacturers
Commercial vehicles from all manufacturers can charge at all shared charging stations along the MAN service network. In Germany, where 125 joint truck charging stations are planned, this will create the largest public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles to date. As part of the strategic cooperation between E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus, E.ON will be setting up modern fast-charging infrastructure in Austria, the UK, Denmark, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary in addition to Germany.
