MATERIALICA Award 2018: Expert Jury To Choose The Best Competition Entries

Innovative materials and intelligent manufacturing technologies for sustainable mobility // Two winners in the special category “Student”

Munich, September 2018 – The winners of the 16th MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award have been announced: In their meeting, the jury of experts selected the most interesting and innovative products and projects as the finalists of this prestigious award, which is the only one in the world positioned at the interface of design, technology and materials. More than a dozen companies and organizations, from Tier 1 automotive suppliers to specialized small and medium sized companies, can hope to win the coveted Best Of Award in one of the four competition categories. In the “Student” category, two students share the prize money of 1,000 for their submissions, which include both a finished product as well as some basic research on the processing of biological raw materials.

“It was a great pleasure to talk with my jury colleagues about the mostly very good contributions. It has shown that many submissions are getting closer to the main topic of our trade fair eMove360°, electric mobility and connected and autonomous driving. We are very pleased because we are convinced that the success of New Mobility depends in large part on the intelligent use of new materials and innovative production technologies”, emphasizes Robert Metzger, Managing Director of MunichExpo and organizer of the Award. Nina Saller, Director of the strategic design consultancy XbeyondS and jury chairwoman of this year’s MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award, adds: “We are very pleased to see the quality of the competition entries continuing to increase overall. In addition to a high level of innovation, sustainability is becoming more and more important – both in the submissions and for us as a jury in the evaluation of the competition entries.”

The finalists are now awaiting the announcement of the winners Silver and Gold Awards in the categories Material, Product, Surface & Technology, CO2 Efficiency and the special category Student and the Best Of-Awards for the category winners. The official award ceremony of the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award is traditionally held on the first day of the eMove360° – International Trade Fair for Mobility 4.0 – electric – connected – autonomous, on 16 October 2018 at 6pm (Messe München, Forum in Hall A6). The presentation will once again be moderated by TV journalist Jan Stecker (Automobil, Sport).
