MGS5 EV: All-round SUV launches with three model variants

The new MGS5 EV will be launched in Germany from 19 May. Its electric drive system delivers a maximum output of 170 kW and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. Full torque can be delivered in less than 50 milliseconds. The Comfort and Luxury versions with a 64 kWh battery can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds.

An efficiency strategy has been developed for the MGS5 EV to optimise the range. New bearings reduce rolling resistance by a further 25 per cent compared to previous models, and the combination of an integrated braking system and a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) can recover energy from deceleration. It is offered with two battery options: In the Comfort variant, it is available with a 49 kWh or a 64 kWh battery, and in the Luxury trim with a 64 kWh battery. The 64 kWh battery offers a combined range of 480 kilometres in the Comfort version and 465 kilometres in the Luxury version.

Depending on the charging conditions, the charging capacity of the 49 kWh and 64 kWh batteries allows for minimal pause times. Fast charging (10 to 80 per cent) of the 49 kWh battery takes just 24 minutes, while the larger 64 kWh battery can be charged in 28 minutes. The maximum DC charge is 120 kW for the 49 kWh battery and 139 kW for the 64 kWh battery.

With its advanced Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) and ultra-thin 110mm battery design, it is a spacious and comfortable SUV that can comfortably accommodate four adults and their luggage. A 12.8-inch HD touchscreen with improved graphics and fast response times forms the centrepiece of the cockpit. In addition, physical controls are available for the main functions such as audio control, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hazard warning lights and a home button. Operating these manual controls is quick and easy and does not distract the driver. A digital 10.25-inch HD driver display rounds off the range.

Marc Hecht, Director PR & Communications, MG Motor Germany summarises: “As a compact all-round SUV, the MGS5 EV consistently continues the transition to the second generation of all-electric MGs. What began with the MG4 Electric and was emotionally rounded off with the MG Cyberster has found a more than worthy successor to the popular MG ZS EV in the MGS5 EV. And with its attractive price-performance ratio, many safety features and extensive equipment, it too is a true MG.”

Talk about money: The MGS5 EV Comfort Standard Range with 49-kWh battery is available from 37,990 euros, the MGS5 EV Comfort Long Range with 64-kWh battery from 42,990 euros and the MGS5 EV Luxury Long Range with 64-kWh battery from 44,990 euros.
