Milence in Varberg, Sweden
Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP and the Volvo Group, has taken its first step into the Nordic market with the opening of the loading park in Varberg, Sweden. It is the fourth hub in Europe and the first of ten hubs to be opened in Sweden. Together, they will contribute to the development of the largest public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles in Europe. The charging parks in Åstorp and Ödeshög will follow later this year.
The new charging park in Varberg is strategically located on the TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean corridor between Gothenburg and Malmö in south-west Sweden – close to exit 55 of the E6 motorway. This makes the town an important stopover for freight forwarders and lorry drivers travelling on the main logistics routes in Sweden. Varberg, an important transport hub, was carefully selected due to its accessibility and importance in the region. The loading park in Varberg is open to all truck brands – as with all Milence hubs.
The Varberg loading park will be expanded in two phases. The first phase was inaugurated today and comprises eight charging points with four powerful CCS (Combined Charging System) chargers and a charging capacity of up to 400 kW each. In the second phase from 2025, further charging points and chargers for the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) will be added. This will significantly increase the charging capacity and enable heavy commercial vehicles to be charged even faster and more reliably. By accelerating the development of technology and the electrification of Europe’s main transport routes, Milence is making it easier for fleet operators to switch to zero-emission vehicles.
To ensure accessibility for all heavy-duty vehicles on the market, Milence has signed agreements with various e-mobility service providers (eMSPs) in Europe. Their cards can be used for payments at the Varberg charging park, allowing drivers to charge seamlessly across different platforms. Further partnerships are currently being finalised to further improve payment flexibility across the network. Direct payments via the Milence app or by bank card will also be possible.
The standard tariff for Milence billing is EUR 0.4 (EUR 0.399 or SEK 4.53) per kWh plus VAT. The applicable tariff will be shown in the Milence app and on the display of the respective charging station to ensure transparency. Future price changes will be communicated via the official Milence channels.
Milence continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable road transport, not only by providing the right charging infrastructure, but also by ensuring the full availability of green energy and incorporating sustainable construction practices. These are designed to reduce the CO2 emissions of the entire concrete carriageway solution and ensure a lifespan of 30 years.
