Chinese premium EV manufacturer NIO has unveiled its new flagship executive SUV, the NIO ES9, marking another milestone in the company’s expansion of the premium electric vehicle segment. Deliveries of the new model begin on May 28, 2026, initially exclusively in China.
With a length of 5.37 meters, a wheelbase of 3.25 meters and seating for up to six occupants, the ES9 targets the luxury SUV market with a combination of advanced electrification, digitalization and premium comfort. The vehicle is based on NIO’s new 900-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast 5C charging as well as the company’s signature battery-swapping technology, which can exchange a battery in approximately three minutes.
The ES9 features NIO’s latest autonomous driving and AI technologies, including the new NX9031 5-nanometer automotive-grade chip, 31 high-performance sensors and the company’s evolving NIO WorldModel (NWM) platform. The SUV also introduces a range of industry-first technologies, from intelligent dimming windows and immersive 5D cabin experiences to advanced active suspension and steer-by-wire technology.
Inside, NIO places a strong emphasis on executive travel and mobile productivity. Second-row zero-gravity seats, a full-body massage system, dual 16-inch displays and integrated conferencing functions transform the cabin into a luxury office and lounge on wheels.
The ES9 delivers up to 620 kilometers of range (CLTC) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Despite its size, rear-wheel steering enables a turning radius comparable to that of a compact sedan.
While the ES9 highlights NIO’s ambitions in the premium EV segment, European customers will have to wait. The vehicle has been launched exclusively for the Chinese market and is currently not available in Europe.
