NIO: Ten-year anniversary in Europe

NIO, a global company specializing in high-quality, intelligent electric vehicles, is celebrating its tenth anniversary in Europe. This milestone underscores the company’s strong commitment to the region. Europe remains an important innovation platform for NIO and a pioneer in integrating digital mobility solutions into a sustainable lifestyle. The anniversary celebration took place on August 4 at the Global Design Center in Munich-Ismaning. Guests included Hui Zhang, Vice President of NIO Europe, and Hubert Aiwanger, Deputy Minister-President of Bavaria and Minister of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy. In addition to media representatives, Kurt Kapp, Head of Economic Development Munich, and Qiu Xuejun, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Munich, were also present. The event brought together NIO employees from across Europe, both on site and via livestream.

Since entering the international market in Norway, NIO has consistently and resiliently pursued its user-centric approach and vision of a sustainable mobility ecosystem. Today, NIO is represented in the five most important European countries: Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. Further market entries in other countries are already in the planning stage. Part of the innovative charging infrastructure are 60 power swap stations in Europe, which comprise over 3,500 locations worldwide for fully automatic battery replacement. With 20 NIO Houses, NIO Hubs, and NIO Spaces in Europe and more than 185 NIO Houses worldwide, NIO offers its community spaces to meet, inspire, and exchange ideas.

With its Munich-based Global Design Center, the first of its kind for a Chinese automaker in Europe, NIO has positioned itself at the heart of European innovation from the very beginning. Munich is considered a hub for design, automotive talent, and innovation. Here, not only are product designs for global markets created, but also concepts tailored specifically to the needs of European users. The Global Design Center symbolizes the collaboration between China, Germany, and Europe, demonstrating how cross-border partnerships can drive sustainability and innovation both regionally and globally.

“Especially in times of climate responsibility and intelligent mobility, openness, international cooperation, and future-oriented dialogue are needed to shape a sustainable future,” emphasizes Hui Zhang, Vice President of NIO Europe. “By investing in local infrastructure such as charging and battery replacement stations and actively participating in the European innovation landscape, NIO is contributing to the digital transformation in Germany and Europe.”
