Redefining Space in a New Era: Mercedes-Benz unveils electric VLE with 700 km range and limousine comfort

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-new electric VLE, a vehicle that blends limousine-level comfort with the versatility of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). The model marks the debut of the brand’s new Van Architecture and signals a new chapter in Mercedes-Benz’s electrification strategy.

Positioned as a “grand limousine” for up to eight passengers, the VLE combines spacious MPV functionality with premium ride quality, advanced digital features and long-distance electric capability. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle will offer more than 700 km of WLTP range, supported by 800-volt technology and a 115 kWh battery that can recharge up to 355 km of range in about 15 minutes under optimal fast-charging conditions.

Under the skin, the VLE introduces a new electric platform designed for multiple variants, from family-oriented vehicles to exclusive VIP shuttle configurations. Two models are planned initially: the VLE 300 with 272 hp and the VLE 400 4MATIC with up to 409 hp and all-wheel drive.

Inside, Mercedes focuses heavily on digital experience. The vehicle runs on the company’s new MB.OS operating system, which powers the latest generation of the MBUX infotainment system with generative AI features. Rear passengers can access the MBUX Rear Space Experience, highlighted by a retractable 31.3-inch 8K panoramic display that can turn the cabin into a cinema, gaming hub or mobile office.

Comfort and flexibility are also key selling points. The VLE offers configurable seating for six to eight occupants, movable “Roll & Go” seats and an optional Grand Comfort Seat with massage, wireless charging and extended leg support. AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering aim to deliver limousine-like ride quality while maintaining agility despite the vehicle’s large dimensions.

Aerodynamically, the VLE achieves a drag coefficient of 0.25, unusually low for a vehicle in the MPV segment. The streamlined design features illuminated grille elements and distinctive light signatures front and rear.

With the VLE, Mercedes-Benz is targeting customers who need both luxury and space, positioning the model somewhere between a premium van, a luxury limousine and a high-end shuttle vehicle. The VLE is expected to become a central model in the brand’s van lineup as it transitions toward fully electric platforms.
