W.001 is part of the further development of the TRL 5 prototype by the Fraunhofer IFAM. The cartridge, based on a deposit system, combines individual components of this prototype, allowing for a much more compact design and a modular structure of this system. POWERPASTE is an ultrahigh capacity hydrogen storage substance for PEM fuel cell applications. POWER PASTE releases hydrogen on contact with water. It contains about 10 mass % hydrogen (1 kg H2 = 10 kg POWERPASTE). This is a specific energy of 1600
Wh/kg and energy density of 1900 Wh/liter after conversion (10 times the capacity ofLiion batteries). Especially in the power range from 100 W to 10 kW, it offers advantages over other energy storage technologies.
W.001 ist Teil der Weiterentwicklung des TRL-5-Prototypen des Fraunhofer IFAM. Die Kartusche basiert auf einem Pfandsystem und ermöglicht ein kompakteres Design sowie einen modularen Aufbau dieses Systems. POWERPASTE ist ein chemischer Wasserstoffspeicher mit extrem hoher Speicherdichte für PEM-Brennstoffzellen-Anwendungen. Bei Kontakt mit Wasser erzeugt sie gasförmigen Wasserstoff und enthält ca. 10 Masse- % Wasserstoff (1 kg H2 = 10 kg POWERPASTE). Die spezifische Energie beträgt 1600 Wh/kg, die Energiedichte nach Umwandlung 1900 Wh/l (10-mal höher als Li-Ionen-Batterien). Insbesondere im Leistungsbereich von 100 W bis 10 kW bietet POWERPASTE viele Vorteile gegenüber anderen Energiespeichertechnologien.
