Forged Aluminum/Magnesium Lightweight Components in Automotive Manufacturing
Due to the composite material, the advantages of the individual materials can be optimally used. Magnesium is 30% lighter than aluminum, but prone to corrosion. The outer layer of the components is therefore made of aluminum and the core of magnesium. Forging creates a stable material bond. A signifi cant weight reduction is thus achieved through the use of forged aluminum / magnesium lightweight construction elements in lightweight construction. Through the development of improved corrosion
protection measures and the associated increase in component service life, the associated increase in component service life, the composite material is becoming more and more important.

Durch den Materialverbund können die Vorteile der einzelnen Werkstoffe optimal genutzt werden. Magnesium ist im Vergleich zu Aluminium um 30% leichter, aber korrosionsanfällig. Die Aussenschicht der Bauteile besteht daher aus Aluminium und der Kern aus Magnesium. Durch das Schmieden erreicht man einen stabilen Materialverbund. Somit wird durch den Einsatz von geschmiedeten Aluminium/Magnesium- Leichtbauelementen im Leichtbau eine signifi kante Gewichtsreduzierung erzielt. Durch die Entwicklung von verbesserten Korrosionschutzmaßnahmen und die damit verbundene Bauteillebensdauersteigerung rückt der Verbundwerkstoff immer mehr in den Vordergrund.
