GMC™ – Green Moulding Compound
The Italian start-up Hikari has developed the composite material Green Molding Compound GMC® in collaboration with the Laboratory of Polymers and Composites at the University of Ferrara. It is similar to conventional Sheet Molding Compounds (SMC) and Bulk Molding Compounds (BMC), but replaces conventional components with environmentally friendly alternatives: Glass fibers are replaced by natural flax fibers, and a polyester resin with a high natural content (around 50 %) is used as the matrix. Waste
from food processing replaces mineral waste. GMC® is used by Hikari for the Hedera vertical garden system, where a balance between environmental compatibility and mechanical properties is crucial.
Das italienische Start-up Hikari hat in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Labor für Polymere und Verbundwerkstoffe der Universität Ferrara den Verbundwerkstoff Green Moulding Compound GMC® entwickelt. Es ähnelt den herkömmlichen Sheet Moulding Compounds (SMC) und Bulk Moulding
Compounds (BMC), ersetzt jedoch herkömmliche Komponenten durch umweltfreundliche Alternativen: Glasfasern werden durch natürliche Flachsfasern ersetzt, und als Matrix wird ein Polyesterharz mit hohem
Naturanteil (etwa 50 %) verwendet. Abfälle aus der Lebensmittelverarbeitung ersetzen mineralische. GMC® wird von Hikari für das vertikale Gartensystem Hedera verwendet, bei dem ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Umweltverträglichkeit und mechanischen Eigenschaften entscheidend ist.
