Low-carbon steel grades for automotive mass production
Customer interest in steel products with the lowest possible CO₂ footprint has risen steadily in recent years. In 2015, Salzgitter AG developed SALCOS (SAlzgitter Low CO₂ Steelmaking) as a long-term sustainable solution for low-CO₂ steel production. As its large-scale use requires a massive restructuring of conventional steel production and suitable regulatory framework conditions and will not be available until 2025, the Group company Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, together with the Group’s sister company Peiner Träger GmbH (PTG), qualifi ed low-CO₂ fl at steel production based on scrap via the electric arc furnace route at the end of 2020.

tigt geeignete regulatorische Rahmenbedingungen, die frühestens ab 2025 zur Verfügung stehen. Daher hat bereits 2020 die Konzerngesellschaft Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH gemeinsam mit der Konzernschwes-
ter Peiner Träger GmbH (PTG) die CO₂arme Flachstahlproduktion auf Basis von Schrott über die ElektrolichtbogenofenRoute qualifiziert.
