Together with the Institute for Materials Technology and Plastics Processing (IWK), a branch of Swiss Universities, #tide has developed a formula that regenerates plastic trash from the ocean. It reverses the damage caused by the UV rays and salt water. The #tide material is made completely from plastic collected from the ocean – not just PET bottles, also hard plastics (HDPE or PP) like shampoo bottles and plastic containers are used to create new products such as electronic devices, watches or chairs. World famous brands like Fossil or Diesel (watches) will hit the market with #tide ocean material in 2020. Coming next: A fiber made out of 100% ocean plastic, which will be used by the fashion industry.
Plastik aus dem Ozean galt durch Einflüsse wie UV-Strahlung und Salzwasser bislang als nicht rezyklierbar. Das Schweizer Startup tide ocean SA hat zusammen mit Forschern der Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil neue Aufbereitungstechniken entwickelt, mit denen Ozeanplastik (PET, HDPE, PP) regeneriert und als hochwertiges und vielseitiges Kunststoffgranulat verwendet werden kann. Damit wird der Kreislauf geschlossen, die Verschmutzung der Meere reduziert. Mit Marken wie Diesel und Fossil (Uhren) setzen erste weltbekannte Firmen auf den Ozeanplastik von #tide. Nach erfolgreichen Tests werden die nachhaltigen Produkte 2020 auf den Markt kommen. Als nächstes werden auch Textilfasern aus 100% Ozeanplastik hergestellt.
