Verge Motorcycles makes history: Motorcycles with solid-state battery technology are available to customers for the first time

By using solid-state battery technology in market-ready motorcycles, Verge enables a charging time of just ten minutes and a range of up to 595 km. This breakthrough represents an extraordinary innovation in battery technology, whose development was driven by Verge and is now finding its way onto public roads.

Known for its groundbreaking hubless rim motor, technology and electric motorcycle company Verge Motorcycles is once again pushing the boundaries of what motorcycling can be. The company is the first in the world to introduce solid-state battery technology into the series production of motorcycles, marking a significant milestone not only for two-wheelers but for electric vehicles in general. Developed and tested in collaboration with technology company Donut Lab, the innovative battery technology enables significantly faster charging times and nearly doubles the range on a single charge.

Solid-state batteries have been an important topic of discussion in the automotive industry in recent years. These batteries consist of a solid electrolyte, which makes them significantly safer and more efficient than lithium-ion batteries made from liquid or gel electrolytes. Numerous major vehicle manufacturers have tested solid-state technology in their own vehicles, and it is expected to be used more widely in production vehicles over the next decade. Verge is one step ahead. The company will deliver the first motorcycles with solid-state batteries to its customers in the coming months.

“The use of solid-state battery technology in production motorcycles is a historic breakthrough that will revolutionize the entire automotive industry. Through Verge’s close collaboration with Donut Lab, as well as testing and validation of the battery packs, we have been able to integrate the technology into the new generation of the Verge TS Pro model, which is already in production and available on the Verge website and in our showroom stores,” said Tuomo Lehtimäki, CEO of Verge Motorcycles.

The company unveiled the next evolutionary stage of the Verge TS Pro at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan in early November.

Groundbreaking features revolutionize the riding experience

Solid-state battery technology and other outstanding features make the Verge TS Pro a dream come true for every motorcyclist. Its next-generation Donut 2.0 motor weighs 50% less than its predecessor but offers the same power and torque (1,000 Nm), significantly improving efficiency, stability, and handling. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

The new battery pack revolutionizes the riding experience with extremely fast charging: in just ten minutes, the range can be increased by an additional 300 kilometers. Current battery technologies typically only allow for a few thousand charging cycles, whereas Verge’s solid-state battery can be used throughout the entire life of the motorcycle. The improved battery has no impact on the price of the motorcycle, making it an extremely cost-effective option for customers.

In addition, Verge customers can choose a battery pack with extended range at the time of purchase, increasing the range from 350 kilometers to up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, which is almost double the additional range.

“Donut Lab’s next-generation solid-state battery technology is the result of many years of development work. Now we are ready to present a truly exceptional technology to the electric mobility market, with Verge’s motorcycle being an excellent first example. And this is just the beginning – our battery technology can be used in all types of vehicles, from motorcycles and cars to trucks, robots, and stationary energy storage systems,” explains Donut Lab CTO, Ville Piippo.

Improved safety and sustainability

A key advantage of solid-state batteries is their safety. Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, they do not catch fire, making them much safer for users and charging stations. The innovative battery packs also offer stable operation across all operating temperatures.

Verge’s solid-state batteries are also responsible. They are made from materials that are widely available worldwide, so material availability does not cause production problems.
