With the Toyota FT-Me concept vehicle, Toyota Motor Europe showcases its vision for fully electric and affordable micromobility. Inspired by the innovative mobility solutions Toyota developed for the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this versatile electric car meets the evolving needs of city dwellers and the demands of the modern urban environment. At less than 2.5 meters long, the two-seater FT-Me is maneuverable and agile. It requires only half the parking space of a conventional car, and even a third when parallel parking. Its design is inspired by an open-face helmet, combining contrasting black and white colors to convey a sense of safety, robustness, and lightness.
As an introduction to individual mobility, the FT-Me is ideal for new drivers. With the appropriate driver’s license, the vehicle can be driven from the age of 14 in some markets. The innovative 360-degree vision concept simplifies interaction and eye contact with other road users, thus increasing safety and maneuverability.
The advanced connectivity is demonstrated by the seamless integration of the smartphone, which replaces the vehicle key and provides access to various functions and services. Regardless, the FT-Me is controlled entirely manually via the steering wheel, making it usable for wheelchair users without any subsequent modifications.
The FT-Me is also an example of Toyota’s sustainability approach: It uses predominantly recycled materials, reducing the carbon footprint by 90 percent compared to today’s urban vehicles. The all-electric drive system also consumes three times less energy per kilometer than a high-capacity battery-powered car. The solar panel integrated into the roof charges the vehicle with solar energy and provides an additional range of 20 to 30 kilometers per day – depending on the weather and environment, this eliminates the need for plugging in.
“Mobility for all”: In addition to younger drivers, the model is aimed at those who want to drive less in the changing urban landscape. The FT-Me offers a versatile, sustainable, and elegant solution for constantly evolving cities and is a further step toward a comprehensive mobility ecosystem for people, goods, and services.
