ZF LIFETEC presents an innovative steering wheel concept for automated vehicles. The steering wheel rim folds electrically in just two seconds and disappears into the dashboard, creating space for new, flexible interior solutions. The concept combines traditional operating functions with the requirements of automated driving modes. A central light element indicates the current driving mode by changing color. The integrated anti-pinch protection ensures safety when folding. ZF sees the steering wheel as an emotional and functional interface between driver and vehicle. With the new system, the company aims to combine comfort, safety, and new freedoms in the interior – especially for markets where the car is increasingly used as a work or relaxation space.
