Shell as charging station operator: half a million by 2025, 2.5 million by 2030

E-charging infrastructure provider ABB E-mobility has signed a new global framework agreement with Shell to supply ABB’s complete portfolio of AC and DC charging stations. The product portfolio ranges from the AC wallbox for homes, businesses and retail to the Terra 360 charging station, which is perfect for gas stations, urban charging stations, shopping centers and fleet applications.

With this collaboration, ABB E-mobility and Shell are helping to address two significant challenges in increasing the adoption of electric vehicles. First, to improve the availability of charging infrastructure, Shell intends to operate 500,000 charging points worldwide by 2025 and 2500000 by 2030, either at residential buildings, commercial locations or Shell points of sale. Secondly, to address charging speed, ABB’s portfolio of charging stations will be used, including the Terra 360.

Frank Mühlon, CEO of ABB E-mobility, said, “In line with our joint commitment to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, ABB and Shell continue to drive progress in electric mobility with their innovative solutions. Since 2019, we have been working together to roll out public charging infrastructure and extend this collaboration with this latest agreement.”

“We are delighted to support Shell in its ambition to build a global charging network. With our complete charging portfolio, we ensure that Shell has the optimal solution for every application. In this way, we enable more people to have access to charging options, regardless of their location.”
