The Renault Group, Valeo and Valeo Siemens eAutomotive have signed a letter of intent on a strategic cooperation. The partners have agreed to jointly design, develop and produce a new generation of passenger car electric motors. The units are to be manufactured in France from 2027 and will do without rare earths.
The aim of the three partners is to use their combined know-how to develop an electric drive that provides more power with less energy consumption. Each of the cooperation partners will contribute their expertise on the two key components of the electric motor: the rotor and the stator.
Renault will develop and produce the rotor technology for the synchronous motor. The focus here is on dispensing with the use of rare earths and improving the power output. In addition, Renault will handle the overall architecture for Renault Group’s all-in-one engine.
