Decarbonization of Vestas service floats: more than 100 ID. Buzz Cargo

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) and Vestas Wind Systems, a global energy partner for sustainable energy solutions, are strengthening their strategic cooperation. Carsten Intra, CEO of VWN, and Lars Krause, Member of the Brand Board for Sales and Marketing, met with Henrik Andersen, CEO of Vestas, and his team to coordinate the further expansion of this partnership. In addition to the deployment of the all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo in the Vestas service fleet, the two companies also agreed to collaborate on electrified transport solutions in the future to further accelerate the decarbonization of the Vestas service fleet.

Vestas has already ordered more than 100 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo on order. The first vehicles entered service in February 2023 and will be used for service and maintenance of Vestas wind turbines in Denmark and northern Germany. Other European markets such as France and Spain will follow in the coming months. With the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2030, Vestas is transforming its own fleet by deploying the all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo, which will be delivered balance sheet CO₂-neutral. Christian Venderby, executive vice president, service at Vestas, says: “At Vestas, we are committed to becoming carbon neutral in our own operations, without the use of offsets, by 2030. To achieve this goal, it is critical that we not only decarbonize our business operations today, but also maintain this ambition while making assumptions about the scalability of our service business. Partnerships with industry leaders like Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are critical to meeting this aspiration of sustainable scalability. We are proud to work in collaboration to build a decarbonized service business that can grow with the energy transition.”

VWN CEO Carsten Intra emphasizes, “It is our ambition at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to actively shape the path to sustainable mobility. This includes our own production along with its supply chains, but also partnerships with leading providers of sustainable solutions from other sectors of the economy. With our vehicles and services for sustainable, climate-friendly mobility, we provide an important building block for Vestas’ work. At the same time, we are learning a lot in the cooperation about the requirements for our vehicles. Vestas, named the world’s most sustainable company by Corporate Knights in 2022, is thus an ideal partner for us.”

Lars Krause adds: “The ID. Buzz stands for sustainable mobility like no other commercial vehicle. With the balance sheet CO2-neutral vehicle handover and the likewise climate-neutral daily use, together with our customers we are also setting new standards for service fleets. We are proud to support Vestas as a pioneer of the energy transition with our ID. Buzz Cargo to support its business.”
