In Berlin, Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport, presented a funding decision of almost 24 million euros to a representative of Munich Airport. This grant supports the purchase of up to 72 electrically operated passenger buses, including the necessary landing infrastructure, at Munich Airport. The funding decision was handed over to Helmut Ehrnstraßer, the managing director of AeroGround, which, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH (FMG), is responsible for ground handling and passenger transport at Munich Airport. The buses are low-floor articulated and low-floor solo buses that can be used to transport passengers and crew at Munich Airport.
The use of the new electric buses will make an important contribution towards making the airport CO2-neutral. This goal should be achieved at Munich Airport by 2030 at the latest. “Electromobility is an essential part of our toolbox that we use to reduce CO2 emissions. That’s why we’re very pleased about this support, which we also see as recognition and incentive for our efforts in climate protection,” explained Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH. Helmut Ehrnstrasser adds:
“We want to convert our bus fleet completely to electric drive by 2025 and will invest a total of up to 60 million euros in this. In relation to all AeroGround emergency vehicles, we already have a share of almost 40 percent of electrically operated vehicles in our fleet.” www.munich-airport.de
