More variants, more range: The next generation of the eCanter from Daimler Truck subsidiary FUSO

World premiere in Japan: The Daimler Truck subsidiary MFTBC (Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, “FUSO”) has presented the new model generation of the all-electric light truck FUSO eCanter. Since the launch of the small series of the eCanter in 2017, around 450 vehicles have been handed over to customers in Japan, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, covering a total of over six million kilometres locally emission-free. With the experience of five years in real customer use, FUSO has developed the Next Generation eCanter, which offers even more diverse customer solutions with a significantly expanded vehicle range.

The Next Generation eCanter will feature the eAxle, which integrates the engine into the rear axle for a more compact drive structure. This structural change enables a significant expansion of the product range. FUSO’s Next Generation eCanter will comprise more than 100 variants worldwide, including 28 for the Japanese domestic market, to cover a wider range of logistics requirements. In addition to the current 7.5-tonne truck (zGG, gross vehicle weight rating), the new vehicle will be offered in weight classes from 4.25 to 8.55 tonnes. The cab variants have also been expanded: In addition to the standard cab width (1,695 mm), which offers more flexibility on narrow roads, a new, wider cab (1,995 mm) is now available. The range of wheelbases has also been extended, from 2,500 mm up to 4,750 mm.

More range thanks to new modular battery concept

With the Next Generation eCanter, FUSO introduces a completely new modular battery concept. The vehicle is available with three battery options depending on the wheelbase. Vehicles equipped with a single battery with a nominal capacity of 41.3 kWh have a range of up to 70 km on one charge. Vehicles with two battery modules have a range of up to 140 km, and vehicles with three modules up to 200 km. To offer customers even more flexibility, the new model is also equipped with a PTO system that enables special solutions for customers who want to operate their eCanter with a tipper, a rear crane or an air-conditioned van body, among other things. This enables an even wider range of applications for customers. The complete vehicle range, technical specifications and equipment may vary from market to market. Details of overseas models will be announced at the time of their launch.

The sales launch of the next generation eCanter in the Japanese market is planned for spring 2023. In the coming years, FUSO will also introduce the new vehicle in other overseas markets. www.new-ecanter.com/en/
