ABB E-mobility has unveiled its new Terra Home charging solution at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. The wallbox will be launched in the second half of 2023 and is expected to herald the next generation of charging stations for residential customers. The innovative design will allow users to make the most of their renewable energy sources to further reduce their carbon footprint.
To mark the announcement of the new home charging solution, ABB E-mobility commissioned a survey asking 5,500 motorists from 10 countries, including Germany, about their top priorities for 2023. For the majority of respondents, sustainability plays a crucial role: 90 percent see themselves as responsible for contributing to the protection of the earth for future generations with their decisions.
This is also evident in travel: Here, 86 percent of respondents worldwide would like to reduce their emissions in 2023. Around 3 in 10 drivers are also considering switching to an electric car, and 4 in 10 plan to use public transport more often. “2023 will be another decisive year. This is also underlined by the survey results: “Drivers are ready and willing to join us on our journey towards a low-carbon society,” says Leon van de Pas, Head of Destination Charging at ABB E-mobility.
Self-generated electricity preferred
The Terra Home can automatically give preference to self-generated electricity from renewable energy sources, such as solar energy. The fact that the use of renewable energy sources is important to car drivers in relation to electromobility is also confirmed by the survey. More than half of the respondents (54%) said they would be more willing to use an electric car if it was ensured that the electricity came from renewable sources.
The wallbox not only sets standards when it comes to choosing a sustainable charging solution, but is also visually impressive. Because the Terra Home comes with a minimalist design. Owners can choose between different materials and design personalised covers. In this way, the Terra Home fits ideally into one’s own home to match the respective lifestyle and living style.
Thanks to intelligent functions such as car and wallbox recognise each other immediately and automatically, thus ensuring seamless charging permission. Interactive lighting functions show the status of the charging process. In addition, users can check the charging status via app.
A cloud connection between the Terra Home and ABB E-mobility enables fast and efficient remote maintenance of the charger. In addition, firmware updates can be uploaded so that users will always benefit from the latest charging functions in the future.
The Terra Home from ABB E-mobility will be on display for the first time at CES in Las Vegas from 5 to 8 January 2023. In Germany, the product will be shown for the first time in May. www.abb.com
