Omoda: New car brand from China comes to Germany with e-crossover SUV

The new car brand Omoda (an independent brand of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. based in Wuhu), which specializes in crossover SUVs, is launching the Omoda 5 EV, the all-electric counterpart to the petrol version Omoda 5, on the German market in the first half of the year. The 4.40-long electric vehicle is dominated by a futuristic front end with sharply contoured headlights and clear lines. The front looks like a streamlined shark’s mouth. The seemingly floating roof is contrasting in color. With just 15 KWh per 100 km, the BEV can travel up to 450 km on a single charge. Thanks to the fast charging technology, the battery can be charged up to 80% within 35 minutes. Prices for the extravagant crossover SUV will start at around 37,000 euros (incl. VAT). The electric version is powered by a motor on the front axle with 150 kW and 340 Nm of torque. This enables the compact SUV to sprint to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The Omoda 5 EV will be available with two battery sizes: 41 kWh for a range of 300 km and 62 kWh for 450 km. The cells come from CATL.

The Omoda 5 EV is equipped with a variety of intelligent systems. The 24.6″ curved dual screen inspires the intuitive menu navigation of the HMI5 operating system. In addition to the global five-star NCAP certification and the high-strength steel body architecture, the 17 intelligent driving assistance functions of the new generation ADAS system ensure comprehensive safety.
