Quantron and Ford Trucks: LOI for joint development opportunity for vehicles with Quantron Inside technology

Quantron AG and Ford Trucks have jointly signed a letter of intent. As part of the strategic cooperation, the Quantron Inside technology will be used for integration into Ford Trucks vehicles to enable zero-emission transportation solutions. It offers an effective range, an innovative e-axle, a tailor-made high-performance battery, fuel cell and tank system integration as well as unique energy management and optimized aerodynamics for maximum efficiency. The focus of the collaboration is on hydrogen-powered heavy commercial vehicles with fuel cell drive. As part of the first phase of the collaboration with Ford Trucks, QUANTRON will ensure a seamless adaptation of Ford’s advanced trucks, which will be built in compliance with the new safety regulations from the first quarter of 2024.

The cooperation between Ford Trucks and QUANTRON can be described as a basis of experience for the integration of zero-emission drive solutions in commercial vehicles. QUANTRON has already delivered more than 200 vehicles, all of which are emission-free. Most of these are battery electric vehicles, but QUANTRON also has experience with fuel cell electric vehicles.

Michael Perschke, CEO of Quantron AG, explains: “The partnership with a renowned vehicle manufacturer such as Ford Trucks strengthens QUANTRON’s position as an innovation leader in the field of sustainable transportation solutions and as a partner of established commercial vehicle OEMs.”

Rene Wollmann, CTO of Quantron AG, adds: “Our partners want to accelerate their development of fuel cell powered trucks while focusing their own resources on other areas. We are the benchmark in the FCEV vehicle segment up to 7.5t and in the FCEV heavy-duty segment up to 44t, delivering our uncompromising and unique Quantron Inside technology and components. Our close technical cooperation will help to further accelerate the broad market introduction of fuel cell electric commercial vehicles.”

Emrah Duman, Head of Ford Trucks, says: “We are very pleased to have QUANTRON as an experienced partner to help us realize a fuel cell powered heavy-duty truck for our customers. This collaboration promises to create significant value for the future. Ford Trucks is committed to investing in innovative technologies that will shape the future of the heavy-duty truck industry while aligning with our sustainability goals. Our primary focus is on electrification, closely followed by advances in hydrogen technology. With a diverse pool of promising technological talent and capabilities, our efforts are making rapid and successful progress.”

The partnership cements QUANTRON’s strong position as a pioneer in sustainable mobility and underscores both companies’ commitment to a greener future in the transportation sector. For example, Ford Trucks has committed to achieving zero-emission production of heavy-duty vehicles by 2040 to mitigate the effects of climate change. With the jointly developed vehicles, QUANTRON will further diversify its range of environmentally friendly mobility solutions to meet the growing demand.
