Schaltbau: Project order for new 800-volt electric platform for a German premium car manufacturer

Schaltbau GmbH, a leading international supplier of safety-related components and systems for direct current technology headquartered in Munich, has been nominated with its new C801 high-voltage contactor for the new E-platform of a German premium car manufacturer with production start at the end of 2024. The series order with a term of several years and a volume in the double-digit millions demonstrates Schaltbau’s successful positioning as an automotive supplier for battery electric vehicles (“BEV”).

The C801 contactor is used as an interlocking contactor in the battery box (Battery Disconnect Unit/Junction Box) of the 800-volt platform and is characterized by high current-carrying capacity and high energy efficiency. It also features a patented mechanical interlock system that prevents short-circuiting of the battery units even under extreme shocks of up to 120g/20ms, ensuring greater safety for the vehicle and its occupants.

Production location of the contactor: NExT Factory in Velden, Austria

The contactor is produced at Schaltbau’s NExT Factory in Velden, Bavaria. The flexible, automated production facility and the modular design of many Schaltbau components allow rapid production scaling and fast availability, even for specific customer requirements. Thanks to an innovative supply concept, the NExT Factory produces in a virtually CO2-neutral and energy-efficient manner. It is thus not only a best-practice example of green production, but also supports manufacturers of electric vehicles in battery production to reduce their carbon footprint as well as their dependence on Asia. www.schaltbau.de
