Motel One is increasingly focusing on sustainable mobility and will install a total of around 200 charging stations for electric vehicles at almost all German locations by the end of 2022. The charging infrastructure specialist Wirelane, based in Munich and Berlin, will set up the charging points at the Motel One Group hotels. After the German market, international locations are to follow.
With the increasing number of electric vehicles, the demand at the destination is changing. This is where tourist actors come into play. Short trips 200 to 400 km away are becoming increasingly popular, and guests then charge their electric car at the hotel. Hotels that specialize in business trips must also keep an eye on the advance of electromobility. As part of the ESG criteria (Environment, Social, Governance), more and more fleets are being converted from combustion engines to electric vehicles.
“Unfortunately, there are no official numbers. However, based on our own research, we are currently assuming that only five percent of all accommodation providers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have e-charging stations,” says Hakan Ardic, Vice President Hospitality & Mobility at Wirelane. He goes on to explain: “Motel One has been setting standards in terms of sustainability in the hotel industry for years and is now once again taking on a pioneering role when it comes to electromobility.”
The Motel One locations in Germany are equipped with Light & Charge charging stations from Wirelane. Thanks to Tap Payment, the charging process can be paid for contactlessly with NFC-enabled credit, debit cards or girocards and smartphone wallets such as Google or Apple Pay or with cards from common roaming providers at the charging station.
