Motel One is increasingly focusing on sustainable mobility and will install a total of around 200 charging stations for electric vehicles at almost all German locations by the end of 2022. The charging infrastructure specialist Wirelane, based in Munich and Berlin, will set up the charging points at the Motel One Group hotels. After the German market, international locations are to follow.
With the increasing number of electric vehicles, the demand at the destination is changing. This is where tourist actors come into play. Short trips 200 to 400 km away are becoming increasingly popular, and guests then charge their electric car at the hotel. Hotels that specialize in business trips must also keep an eye on the advance of electromobility. As part of the ESG criteria (Environment, Social, Governance), more and more fleets are being converted from combustion engines to electric vehicles.
“Unfortunately, there are no official numbers. However, based on our own research, we are currently assuming that only five percent of all accommodation providers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have e-charging stations,” says Hakan Ardic, Vice President Hospitality & Mobility at Wirelane. He goes on to explain: “Motel One has been setting standards in terms of sustainability in the hotel industry for years and is now once again taking on a pioneering role when it comes to electromobility.”
The Motel One locations in Germany are equipped with Light & Charge charging stations from Wirelane. Thanks to Tap Payment, the charging process can be paid for contactlessly with NFC-enabled credit, debit cards or girocards and smartphone wallets such as Google or Apple Pay or with cards from common roaming providers at the charging station.
The topic of sustainability is firmly anchored in the corporate philosophy at Motel One. For many years now, the Budget Design Hotel Group has made it its mission to make a contribution to making the world a better place through its entrepreneurial activities. Whether green electricity, regional products in organic and fair trade quality, packaging and waste reduction or certified green buildings: the sustainability strategy includes a wide range of measures to protect the planet and takes into account both the environment and society as well as our own employees. Motel One is not only committed to the careful use of important resources, but also works together with local dealers and service providers wherever possible – this saves transport routes and benefits climate protection. Since January 2022, Motel One has significantly expanded its breakfast offering in Germany and Austria. At the buffet, guests can expect a variety of organic and fair trade products as well as a wide selection of additional vegan alternatives. In addition, Motel One not only relies on local products, but also on avoiding waste by using fewer individual packages. www.wirelane.com; www.motelone.com
