Volvo Cars, part of the Chinese vehicle group Geely (Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd), reports global sales of 68,034 vehicles for the month of May, up 13% on the same period last year. The increase in sales was mainly driven by a strong performance in Europe (up 27%) and the company’s small, all-electric SUV EX30. Sales of electrified models – all-electric and plug-in hybrid models – increased by 37% compared to the same period last year and accounted for 48% of all vehicles sold in May. All-electric vehicles accounted for 25 percent of all vehicles sold in the month.
Total sales from January to May amounted to 316,559 cars worldwide, an increase of 15 percent compared to the same period in 2023. In Europe, 33,252 vehicles were sold in May, 27% more than in the same period last year. Sales of Volvo Cars’ electrified models increased by 34 percent compared to the same period last year, and electrified models accounted for 66 percent of all vehicles sold in Europe in May.
“This month’s sales figures are another indicator of our progress towards our sales target of at least 15 percent growth by 2024,” said Björn Annwall, Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy CEO of Volvo Cars. “I am pleased to see another month of solid growth that underlines the strength of our brand. It’s also reassuring to see the positive consumer response to the EX30, which has quickly become one of the best-selling all-electric cars in Europe.”
