Volkswagen restructures the technical board departments and creates the New Mobility department – with Thomas Ulbrich as board member. The two e-model series G4 (MEB models) and G3 are assigned to the New Mobility department. The G3 series comprises all models that will in future be based on the new, highly scalable Group-wide SSP platform. In addition, the department bundles the brand’s software competence. The new board department will work closely with CARIAD, the Group’s automotive software unit. Thomas Ulbrich has also been elected to the supervisory board of CARIAD to further strengthen the cooperation. CARIAD is responsible for the development of the software, while Volkswagen Passenger Cars is in charge of the integration.
Ulbrich has already set important accents for the brand in his role as Board Member for Technology and E-Mobility. He accompanied the ID.3 and the ID.4 from the sketch to the road and thus made a decisive contribution to making e-mobility suitable for the masses. He would now also play a key role in shaping the far-reaching technological change towards digitalised mobility at Volkswagen, said Thomas Schäfer, CEO Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Group Board Member Brand Group Volume. www.volkswagen-newsroom.com
