WirelessCar has been active in growth, transformation and innovation in the automotive industry for 25 years. The Swedish company, based in Gothenburg, was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between Ericson, Volvo and Telia. The aim was to develop and distribute digital mobile services for vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators. Whether as a provider of telematics services in the early days or in its current role as one of the world’s leading providers of services for the connected car, WirelessCar has always been at the forefront of digitalization, connectivity and the development of customer-specific mobility solutions. Today, WirelessCar has grown into an international company with around 750 employees in over 34 countries, working with numerous international automotive brands, connecting over 12 million vehicles and providing services in over 100 markets around the world.
WirelessCar was created as an interface between the automotive industry and the world of software and telecommunications. The company started as a start-up in 1999 and grew with the emerging communication possibilities and rapid technological developments. In its early days, WirelessCar played a crucial role in the development of the first telematics services for Volvo Cars, including Volvo on Call. Since then, the collaboration between WirelessCar and Volvo has expanded from simple emergency services to comprehensive solutions for the connected car. WirelessCar has developed similar services for many other manufacturers over the years.
In addition to customized mobility solutions, WirelessCar also creates direct added value for car manufacturers and their customers with its standard products. In 2023, WirelessCar acquired three new car manufacturers as customers, and new partnerships are expected in 2024.
