The fast-charging infrastructure in eastern Germany continues to grow: The energy company EnBW has begun construction of another fast-charging park for electric cars. With its direct connection to the A4 (Chemnitz Ost junction), the charging park near Chemnitz in Saxony is optimally linked to the long-distance network between Dresden, the capital of Saxony, and Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. It is scheduled to go into operation this year.
Fast charging even faster: EnBW installs charging points with 400 kilowatts of power for the first time
The new charging park near Chemnitz will have 24 state-of-the-art HPC (High Power Charging) charging points. EnBW is installing the next generation of fast charging points there for the first time: these charging points each enable an output of up to 400 kilowatts. This allows drivers to charge fresh range of up to 400 kilometers in just 15 minutes – as soon as vehicles are available that can accommodate this charging power. After such a charging stop near Chemnitz, nothing stands in the way of continuing the journey as far as Frankfurt am Main, Kassel or Munich. Depending on demand, EnBW can retrofit eight additional fast charging points on site, thus expanding the charging park to 32 ultra-fast charging points.
The generous roofing of the charging park protects against the weather and is equipped with a photovoltaic system. The solar power generated above it flows directly into the circuit of the charging park. As with all of its charging locations, EnBW exclusively purchases 100 percent green electricity for any additional energy required at the new fast charging park near Chemnitz.
“Our focus in the expansion of the nationwide fast charging infrastructure is on the needs of our customers,” says Colette Rückert-Hennen, Member of the Board of Management of EnBW. “We are focusing on charging itself and making it easy and convenient. In this way, we are proving the everyday suitability of electromobility anew every day. In addition, we are creating further offerings that also increase the quality of the location for motorists*.” Among other things, the fast-charging park near Chemnitz will be equipped with an automatic REWE ready store available around the clock, as well as toilets and seating.
