Glamping, the artificial word composed of the English terms “glamourous” and “camping,” means a comfortable vacation experience under the open sky. The event will be held in a new roof tent from Porsche Tequipment. The location is the Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu. The sprawling property has served as the backdrop for numerous music videos, commercials, movies and TV shows, including “Knight Rider” and “The A-Team.” Actually, sheep and cattle are raised and wine is pressed there.
The Porsche Tequipment roof tent is a two-person model suitable for year-round use. During transport, it is housed in an exclusive hard case that was conceived at the Weissach Development Center and co-designed at the F.A. Porsche studio in Zell am See. Strengths include quick set-up, comfortable mattress and many practical details.
At the Glamping Experience L.A., the roof tent sits on the railing of the Taycan Cross Turismo. This is the particularly versatile body version of the successful electric sports car, of which the 100,000th unit left the production lines on November 7, 2022, around three years after the start of production. Like the other derivatives, this Taycan started the new model year in the summer with a comprehensive update. Customers benefit from improvements to Porsche Communication Management (PCM), Porsche Connect, and the assistance systems, among other things.
The all-rounder among the electric sports cars
The Taycan Cross Turismo has all the strengths of the Taycan, such as superior performance and long range. Added to this are more headroom for passengers in the rear and a maximum cargo volume of over 1,200 liters behind the large tailgate. The chassis with standard all-wheel drive and air suspension is height-adjustable. Offroad design elements include wheel arch trim, independent lower sections at the front and rear, and side sills. In combination with the Offroad Design package, the Cross Turismo has special flaps at the corners of the front and rear bumpers and at the ends of the sills. These provide a striking exterior and at the same time protect against stone chips. The model range includes four engine options from the Taycan 4 to the Taycan Turbo S; overboost power when using Launch Control ranges from 350 to 560 kW.
Hotel room for nature lovers
The roof tent from Porsche Tequipment transforms the sports car into a hotel room for nature lovers. Buyers can choose between black/light gray and black/dark gray for the hardcase, each with matte black “Porsche” lettering on both sides. The hardcase design can be mounted on the basic carrier of the roof transport systems of the 911, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan with and without roof rails. With roof rails, the maximum payload is around 190 kilograms when stationary, and around 140 kilograms when mounted without rails. The maximum top speed is 130 km/h.
Stargazing: Windows as standard
When folded out, the lying surface measures 210 x 130 centimeters. A comfortable mattress made of high-density polyfoam is integrated. The tent walls are made of breathable cotton blend fabric. With water-repellent zippers and a separate canopy for entry, the tent is also designed for rainy days. Interior highlights include a well-insulating quilted lining in light gray. One roof window and two side windows are standard. The latter can be fully opened for ventilation. Nighttime protection from mosquitoes and light is provided by an insect screen and additional blackout.
Just a few steps and the hotel room is ready for use
The Porsche roof tent is quickly erected on site. First, the lockable safety flaps are opened. Then the hard shell case is lifted slightly and – supported by two gas pressure dampers – unfolded. Then, with the help of the integrated telescopic ladder, the foot section of the base can be folded out and stabilized. This means that the tent is already unfolded. Finally, it only needs to be shaped and tensioned with four spring rods. Optionally, there are other Tequipment accessories.
